Separate but Equal is the eleventh episode of Season 5 of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, and the one hundred-fourth episode of the series.
Due to Jake keeping his campaign promise to put Robert E. on the town council, Robert E. sets up a Freedman's school in shanty town, and the job of teacher falls on Grace as they can't find a white teacher to take the position. It becomes clear that Anthony is well beyond the educational level of the rest of his classmate, so Robert E. and Grace fight to enroll him in the town school with the help of Dr. Mike and Sully.
Meanwhile, Jake and Hank finally open their own hotel, the Gold Nugget, and the battle for hotel business between them and Preston escalates.
